God has things waiting to be revealed to us, but we get too consumed with being accountable to everyone other than Him to say yes.
If we call ourselves followers of Christ, our accountability is first to Jesus, and it’s safe to take the risk because our security is in him.
1 Peter 2:9-10 JB Phillips But you are God’s “chosen generation”, his “royal priesthood”, his “holy nation”, his “peculiar people”—all the old titles of God’s people now belong to you. It is for you now to demonstrate the goodness of him who has called you out of darkness into his amazing light. In the past you were not “a people” at all: now you are the people of God. In the past you had no experience of his mercy, but now it is intimately yours.
If we want to be who God has called us to be, we must be willing to take the risk of not being accountable to this world, but only accountable to Jesus.
That’s going to seem peculiar to those around us who are not Jesus followers and that’s ok.
How often do we miss out on something remarkable because we hold ourselves back from the still small voice that calls us to action.
We don’t know the consequences the Jailer would face for letting Paul and Silas go. Or what repercussions he would face if it was found out he brought them into his own home. What we do know is that he listened. He listened to Paul and Silas singing for hours. We know that he witnessed the provision God had for Paul and Silas. And we know that he said yes and took a risk. I believe that The Lord is nudging us today the same as He has all along. That he is speaking to us the same as He did to pharaoh’s daughter or to the Jailer. But, we’re not always ready to listen, we’re not always ready to take the risk.
